"We are BACK for good... I would like a DSP based sound card"

Chris Hogan (Voter #95) said :
"Gateway really need to get some communication going with software companies - if the new machine doesn't get any software support, it's had it. They should try to get support from companies like 3D Realms, Westwood, and ID Software, to get them to port their stuff over..."

Gerd Schniggenberg (Voter #96) said :
"A quick, smooth migration to PowerPC is required. Do it like Apple; port parts of OS to PowerPC and let the rest be emulated by an emulator. So new programs use PPC, while old programs still run. Retargetable graphics (CGX or Picasso96) and sound (AHI) is a must."

Mattias Eriksson (Voter #99) said :
"The most important task right now is to release a new OS with a lot of devices and many drivers so users can connect scanners, printers etc...
After that the work on the next generation Amigas can really begin."

Hans-Joerg Frieden (Voter #102) said :
"I hope CD-ROM will become standard, as will a faster processor. A 68040 should be the bare minimum, but I hope they will can the 680x0 line, since it is at its end, and go for either PowerPC, or even better, for processor independance.

Also, more memory should be a must. 8 Megs minimum. And I sincerely hope that the new OS will be very similar to AmigaOS as it is now, just with all the new features (Memory protection, Networking, RTG/RTA)"

Stephen Thwaites (Voter #103) said :
"I really think Gateway can make a difference. The new Amiga should be well researched. It MUST reflect todays standards in terms of technology. A brand new look to Workbench with better Internet access would be great. The Amiga must try and stay user friendly and be memory efficient."

Rick Jolley (Voter #104) said :
"Gateway 2000 can save the Amiga platform if they actually strive to improve the product. While the AmigaOS is the best on a personal computer, outside UNIX, it is outdated, as is the hardware. The PowerPC line, or another RISC chip that will allow the Amiga to grow, plus an OS that can handle retargetable graphics, memory protection, and a host of other functions, will help tremendousl, as well as maybe a Zorro IV Data Bus, SCSI controllers for use of the most peripherals, and improved graphics and sound chips. Basically , a system to outdistance the IBM and Mac clones, like the Amiga was before, for a price about $100-$300 lower than the IBM and Mac clones. Also, a tower case for expandability, and a trade-in option, or maybe upgrade boards, if possible.

I know this is a lot, but Amiga owners have been, and always will be loyal to this great machine. Make a machine that will make them proud to be Amiga owners and you will not only keep the current owners and grab back former owners, but bring in a lot of new owners."

"Do all that we Amigans are talking about and you will see that Amiga rules!"

Dante Mendes De Patta (Voter #108) said :
"The Amiga is THE computer that I like to use. The basic A1200 can be upgradable to very high standards.

If Phase 5's PowerUp become available soon, a lot of Amiga users will have up to date CPU's that can match the Pentiums and PowerMacs of the world. And as I've seen talking in IRC, a lot of people will buy these upgrades.

Another interesting aspect is Mac emulation : If the adverts show that the Amiga can run a lot of Mac programs with good results, many people will buy Amigas with the Mac in mind, which is a good thing, because the Mac has Netscape, Photoshop, and other essential programs the Amiga doesn't have.

Remember : Advertise on TV networks etc., showing the Amiga's impressive GFX demos, rendered anims, famous programs and games that were born on the Amiga (e.g Lightwave3D and the game Worms), show the Amiga OS in full multitasking etc."

Christian Nylen (Voter #109) said :
"Bigger manuals and autodocs, hardware guide included."

Stuart Lambert (Voter #110) said :
"How about a `tweaked' chipset containing all the elements of AGA but with 4Mb Chip RAM, 2 new S-VGA screenmodes capable of 800*600 at 8/16 colour depth. Build in a flicker fixer and squeeze the lot on 1 fat chip. This will allow ultra chip motherboards and make any screenmode available on a standard S-VGA monitor.

Nice questionairre. Nice to see some people doing something! (Nice to see some people taking time to fill it in. Thanks. - Ed)"

Caghan Demerci (Voter #111) said :
"Gateway's marketing experience can revive the Amiga dream and promote the new PowerAmiga straight into people's homes and offices: all that needs to be done is to found a professional discussion platform from which the concept and specs of the intimidating PowerAmiga will emerge.

The rest is up to Gateway's marketing boys who will have some tough brainstorming up ahead to form the new Amiga into an attractive bundle with a couple of CD games included and most likely a fully-fledged PowerMac emulator.

The ability of the AmigaOS to multitask with other more widely-used OS's HAS to be emphasised in the advertising process.

Rejunivation will follow as expected."

Mark Neesam (Voter #112) said :
"Games possibly aren't important at the moment. Games encourage people to upgrade a machine, but not to buy it in the first place. Generally, I think a machine needs to beat the competition on the productivity software first to justify an initial purchase."

Christopher Boman (Voter #113) said :
"Please make your best!!"

Christian Schroepfer (Voter #117) said :
"New, faster Custom Chips, with at least 4Mb ChipRAM"

Antonia Alberto Silva (Voter #118) said :
"Time is running out! So I think Gateway2000 should use and `abuse' the existing software/hardware developed by third parties to gain some of that time.

At the same time they should start working with those same developers in the future of the Amiga."

Michael Price (Voter #119) said :
"GW2000 ROOL! It's that simple."

Rob Asumendi (Voter #120) said :
"All we need to do is support our developers. Upgrade your old programs. Buy new ones. Professional software and games. The more people buy products, the more prospective developers will take notice.

Amiga forever... (Couldn't agree more - Ed)"

Ingmar Sittl (Voter #121) said :
"Bring something out, do it fast, release one or two patches to the OS for free!"

David Hinchliffe (Voter #125) said :
"With good support and the licensing of technology the Amiga can survive.

Another good thing would be when a new Amiga is released let the demo programmers do a few things on it to show off what it can do and blow the PC away."

Yurdaer Donmez (Voter #127) said :
"Please make an unbelievable, unbeatable, unforgettable, unreal Amiga. Let's show everyone the POWER!"

David Marchant (Voter #128) said :
"As long as everything is kept to a basic minimum spending wise, with some more powerful Chip RAM, and no CD as standard, then I can see the Amiga being the best computer in the world.... again."

Charles Patterson (Voter #131) said :
"Do what you need to do to get the Amiga back on sale and do it soon or else you will have wasted $15 million."

Justin T. Normann (Voter #132) said :
"What was the advantage of Amiga?

Well, I think these features should be followed when Amiga becomes a success. And this is the reason why (there is only one answer) : The next Amiga should be based on Phase 5's A\Box concept with pOS as the new Amiga RISC-OS (of course the terrible name A\Box should be changed), and of course supporting 3D Surround Sound..
THE TRICK IS INNOVATION NOT STANDARD (If you want standard buy a PC not an Amiga)"

Andrew Fairweather (Voter #133) said :
"Gateway have a real opportunity to save the Amiga so I hope they use their industrial size and influence well in the market place. Gateway has a responsibility to all Amiga users and I hope in the future that they will create a machine that will be acclaimed for its performance and integration"

Alvaro Thompson (Voter #134) said :
"I think GW2K need to make quite an effort to save the Amiga, but they will do it!"
